In Maine, Common
Cause is forming an important alliance to protect media
democracy in our state and throughout the US. Most recently
they held a demonstration outside of Senator Collins office
asking her to support Snowe's Net Neutrality bill.
The bottom line: Private Internet and Cable Service providers
are trying to limit our abilities to communicate freely
with one another through the internet and public access
channels. These and other horrible efforts on the part of
giant media conglomerates are part of ammendments to the
1996 Telecommunications Act which is fast-tracking through
Congress right now. Below are links to more info and ways
to get involved. Stop Big Corporations from tightening control
over our means of communication!
If you live in Maine, you might email Senator
Snowe and thank her for co-sponsoring the Net Neutrality
Act. This would ensure that ISP's cannot (through a user
fee) favor an internet user's access to one website or another.
